Table of the Elements, the U.S. experimental label known for its influential work, is making a comeback. After shutting down in 2011, the label is relaunching as a curatorial platform, interdisciplinary production organization, and publishing house, promising a fresh wave of experimental music and art.
The relaunch kicks off with an event at the Garden Cinema in London on Friday, June 13, featuring a screening and Q&A for the Tony Conrad documentary, Wholly in the present. The organization plans to host more events worldwide in the coming month. A membership drive will support a range of new projects, including vinyl and digital audio releases, artist editions, podcasts, films, and interdisciplinary live performances. The label aims to continue its legacy of supporting avant-garde artists and pushing the boundaries of experimental music.
During its initial run from 1993 to 2011,Table of the Elements released records by artists such as Tony Conrad,Thurston Moore,Jim O’Rourke,and Keiji haino. The label’s new projects include a work from composer Charlemagne Palestine, a podcast series exploring the table of the Elements catalog, and an artist-led audio series. Among the initial vinyl releases are David Grubbs’ Banana Cabbage, Potato Lettuce, Onion Orange; Matthew Welch’s Library of Babel; and Everloving, the debut album from the Henry Flynt tribute band.
