Finding the perfect restaurant and snagging a reservation can be a surprisingly time-consuming process. It usually involves hopping between Google searches, review sites, and the restaurant’s website or OpenTable. But a new partnership between Perplexity AI and opentable is streamlining the entire experience, and after testing it out, I’m convinced it’s a game changer.
From Search too Reservation in Seconds
Perplexity AI is already a powerful tool for answering complex questions and summarizing information. Now, when you ask it for restaurant recommendations, it doesn’t just tell you where to eat – it can actually book a table for you.
I recently tested the feature by asking Perplexity to find a highly-rated Italian restaurant in San Francisco for two people on a Saturday night. The AI quickly presented me with several options, complete with summaries of reviews and key information like price range and cuisine style. Then, with a single click, I was taken straight to OpenTable. After choosing a restaurant, I selected a date, time, and party size. The next screen asked for my contact information and any special requests, such as whether I was celebrating a birthday or anniversary. Once that was done, I had a table. I got a link to manage the reservation and email confirmation from OpenTable. I had no reason to doubt things worked correctly, but I was able to access my reservation by going directly through OpenTable, too.
While I could accomplish the exact same thing without using Perplexity, the process was so smooth that I’ll definitely use it again – both for finding restaurants and booking a table.
Why This Partnership Matters
Before, I’d usually use Google to find restaurants and then head off to another site to make a reservation.I might ask an AI chatbot for help, but I’m usually one to read through reviews first. Perplexity’s partnership removes that middle step and makes the process a lot easier.Actually, after trying it out a few times,it’s probably going to be my new source for trying to decide on a restaurant.
This integration is a significant step forward for AI-powered convenience. It’s not just about automating a task; it’s about creating a more seamless and intuitive user experience. Instead of juggling multiple tabs and websites, you can handle everything within a single platform.
Beyond Reservations: The Future of AI-Powered Planning
the Perplexity and OpenTable collaboration hints at a broader trend: AI becoming a central hub for all kinds of planning and booking. Imagine using AI to not only find restaurants but also book flights, hotels, and activities – all based on yoru preferences and budget.
This is where Perplexity truly shines. Its ability to understand natural language and provide concise, relevant information makes it ideal for complex planning tasks. The addition of direct booking capabilities takes that functionality to the next level.
