Perry Bamonte, the best-known guitarist and keyboardist of The Cure, has died at the age of 65. Bamonte died at his home during Christmas after a short illness, reports Variety.
The Cure on Friday, the band official website confirmed the news of Bamonte’s death, recalling the musician’s contribution to two separate eras of the band’s history: first between 1990 and 2005, then from 2022 until now.
“Quiet,intense,instinctive,constant and highly creative – ‘Teddy’ was a warm-hearted and indispensable part of The Cure’s history,” the band said in a statement.
“Between 1984 and 1989 he looked after us as the band’s ‘everyman’ and then became a full member in 1990. He played guitar, six-string bass and keyboards on recordings of Wish, Wild Mood Swings, Bloodflowers and acoustic releases, performing over 400 gigs over 14 years. He returned to the band in 2022, more He played 90 concerts – many of which were among the best in the band’s history – culminating in the Show of a Lost World concert on November 1, 2024.
