Solo, Indonesia – Tragedy struck the Persib Bandung fanbase ahead of their match against PSS Sleman on Monday night. Mochamad Fathir Fauzan Maulana, an 18-year-old supporter known as a “Bobotoh,” lost his life in a motorcycle accident while traveling to the match in Solo, Central Java.
Hundreds of mourners,including fellow Persib fans,gathered at Maulana’s home in Bandung,West Java,to pay their respects.
Muhamad Rafli Saputra, a close friend and fellow Bobotoh who was traveling with Maulana, recounted the events leading up to the accident. The two friends had traveled from bandung to Yogyakarta by train on Saturday, then rented motorcycles to reach their accommodation.
“We weren’t traveling with a group,” rafli explained. “We left on saturday.”
After spending time at the Abu Ali field, they set off for Stadion Manahan in the afternoon.Rafli admitted they were riding at high speeds.
“We were riding together on the Solo-Yogyakarta highway, but somewhere around klaten, we got separated,” he said. “He was riding fast, and I thoght he was heading straight to the stadium.”
Rafli attended the beginning of the match but received a call from friends in Bandung informing him of the accident.”I don’t know the exact details, but I was told it happened before the match started,” he said.
Rafli stayed with Maulana at the hospital until late into the night before returning to Bandung by ambulance.
