Pests threaten 45% of crops in Mauritania, the Media Sahara
The Assistant Director of Plant Safety within the Mauritanian Ministry of Agriculture, Mohamed Sidna Ali Saghiri, mentioned that agricultural pests trigger losses of between 40% and 45% in fields and farms, with an extra impact of between 5% and 10% on agricultural shares. product.
Saghiri added in a press release reported by the (official) Mauritanian Information Company, through the launch of a coaching course on built-in administration of agricultural pests in Trarza province, that farmers rely closely on the usage of chemical compounds to face these pests, which n result in critical environmental issues.
Saghiri identified that the Ministry is working to implement operations to fight grain-gathering birds, by demolishing nests, which is a method aimed toward decreasing reliance on chemical compounds in pest management.
