Kamil E., a man convicted for his role as the chauffeur in the 2021 murder of Dutch investigative journalist Peter R. De Vries, was stabbed by another inmate at Roermond prison.
The inmate sustained multiple stab wounds to the head and neck during the attack. According to reports, the assailant used a fork to carry out the stabbing, which narrowly missed the victim’s carotid artery.
Prison authorities and investigators have stated that the incident is not believed to be related to the murder of Peter R. De Vries.
The Murder of Peter R. De Vries
The stabbing of Kamil E. Follows his conviction for involvement in the assassination of Peter R. De Vries, one of the most prominent crime reporters in the Netherlands. De Vries was shot in the head in July 2021 after leaving the television studio of RTL Boulevard in Amsterdam.

The attack occurred on a busy street in the Lange Leidsedwarsstraat, near the Leidseplein, as the journalist was walking to his car. De Vries was transported to the VU University Medical Center in critical condition, where he died from his injuries on July 15, 2021.
Throughout his career, De Vries was known for reporting on high-profile criminal cases and scandals, including the kidnapping of Freddy Heineken and the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. He also focused on wrongful convictions and other major murder cases.
Legal Proceedings and Sentencing
The investigation into the murder led to charges against nine men. On June 12, 2024, a Dutch court delivered sentences to the primary perpetrators of the attack.
The shooter and the getaway driver were both sentenced to 28 years in prison. The man identified as the organizer of the killing received a sentence of 26 years and one month.
During the sentencing, the presiding judge at Amsterdam district court, Gert Oldekamp, criticized the defendants for their unprecedented ruthlessness and unscrupulousness

In addition to the three primary convictions, three other men were convicted of complicity in the murder and received prison sentences ranging from 10 to 14 years. One other man was sentenced to four weeks in prison for drug possession but was cleared of complicity in the assassination.
Annemiek van Spanje, a lawyer representing the family of Peter R. De Vries, stated that while the family was satisfied with the court’s judgment, the legal outcome would not bring back their father.
