London – Czech tennis star Petra Kvitova, a two-time Wimbledon champion, announced Thursday that she intends to retire from professional tennis following Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. Kvitova, 35, shared the news on social media after receiving a wild card for Wimbledon, which begins June 30.
Kvitova expressed her excitement about playing at Wimbledon “one more time,” calling it a place that holds cherished memories. She added that she plans to conclude her career at the U.S.Open in New York later this summer, though her hardcourt schedule in the U.S. remains uncertain.
The former world no. 2 also helped Czechia secure six Fed Cup titles, now known as the Billie Jean King Cup. Kvitova last competed at wimbledon in 2023. She gave birth to her first child during last year’s tournament.
After a 17-month absence, Kvitova returned to the WTA tour in Austin, Texas, in February. She is currently ranked No. 572.
