Strengthening Brazil’s Offshore Capabilities
Petrobras, Brazil’s state-owned oil company, has signed a significant R$3.2 billion (approximately $630 million USD) contract with Oceanpact, a leading maritime support vessel company, to charter four specialized Response support Vessels (RSVs) for a period of four years. The agreement, announced monday, August 18, 2025, signals a continued investment in maintaining and expanding Brazil’s offshore oil and gas infrastructure.
The news immediately impacted the market, with oceanpact’s shares (OPCT3) experiencing a jump of 5.35%, closing at R$6.70. This reflects investor confidence in the company’s ability to deliver on the contract and its growing role in the Brazilian energy sector.
What the Vessels Will Do
Thes vessels will be crucial for a range of subsea operations, utilizing Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) to perform essential tasks.These include inspecting underwater structures, conducting preventative and corrective maintenance, and handling the installation and removal of underwater equipment within Petrobras’s operational units. The vessels – named Parcel do Bandolim, Parcel das Timbebas, Parcel das Paredes, and Parcel dos Reis – are equipped to operate in depths of up to 3,000 meters, offering versatility for various underwater challenges.
oceanpact will be responsible for the complete operation of both the vessels and the ROVs, leveraging their extensive experience and specialized tools. This includes a comprehensive suite of equipment designed for a wide range of underwater activities.
Building on a Growing Partnership
This latest contract builds upon an existing relationship between Petrobras and Oceanpact. In December 2024,Oceanpact secured a R$697 million contract for the charter of an Offshore Terminal Support Vessel (OTSV),the Mosqueiro Island,also for a four-year term. This demonstrates Petrobras’s continued reliance on Oceanpact’s expertise and capabilities.
Oceanpact boasts a substantial fleet of 28 vessels, including RSVS, OSRVs, PSVS, RVS, MPSVS, and AHTSS, and maintains the largest inventory of offshore emergency equipment in Latin America. This extensive infrastructure allows the company to serve all oil and gas operators throughout Brazil.
