Pakistan Fuel Prices to Rise Amid Global Market Shifts
Updated June 14, 2025
Islamabad — pakistani consumers should brace for an increase in fuel prices. Petrol is projected to rise by about 1 rupee per liter, while high-speed diesel (HSD) could jump by 5 rupees per liter for the fortnight ending june 30. The expected hike stems from increasing international market rates, sources said.
The current ex-depot price for petrol is 252.63 rupees per liter. The increase will directly affect the budgets of middle- and lower-middle-class citizens who rely on private transport, small vehicles, rickshaws, and motorcycles.
Diesel, now at 254.64 rupees per liter ex-depot, fuels much of Pakistan’s transport sector. A rise in diesel prices ofen leads to broader inflationary pressure, impacting the cost of transporting essential goods like vegetables and other food items via trucks, buses, trains, and agricultural machinery.
The government currently levies roughly 94 rupees per liter in taxes on both petrol and diesel. This includes a petroleum growth levy (PDL) of 77.01 rupees on diesel and 78.02 rupees on petrol and high-octane products, despite a zero general sales tax (GST) on all petroleum products.
Customs duties add another 16 rupees per liter to both petrol and HSD, irrespective of whether the fuel is produced locally or imported. Oil companies and dealers also receive about 17 rupees per liter for distribution and sales margins.
