PGA Tour Announces Major Policy Changes for 2024: Fewer Players & Cards
The PGA Tour Policy Board approved changes focusing on the 2024 season after feedback from players. Key updates include:
-
Field Size: The maximum number of players in open tournaments is reduced from 156 to 144. Depending on conditions, such as daylight, this may drop to 120 or 132 players.
-
FedEx Cup Exemptions: The exempt status will change from the top 125 players to the top 100. A new conditional category will include finishers ranked 101-125.
-
PGA Tour Cards: The number of cards given to players from the Korn Ferry Tour will decrease from 30 to 20. The DP World Tour will still offer 10 cards, and the Q-School will be limited to five cards.
- Priority Rankings: Spots previously reserved for restricted sponsor exemptions will be reallocated to the next eligible member on the Priority Ranking list.
Players and fans have shared their opinions on these changes. Notably, rising star Ludvig Åberg was unaware of the adjustments when asked about them before the RSM Classic. His lack of knowledge highlights how players can stay focused on their game despite changes in the tour structure.
