Joint Exercise Highlights Interoperability and Disaster Response Readiness
MANILA – In a powerful demonstration of their commitment to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the United States military recently conducted a joint simulation exercise at Clark Air Base. The exercise showcased the rapid airlift capabilities of the US MV-22 Osprey aircraft in delivering essential family food packs from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to communities affected by recent floods.
The prosperous drill, held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, underscored the critical importance of interoperability, swift logistics coordination, and robust disaster response readiness between the two allied nations.
Osprey Capabilities on Display for HADR Missions
Defence Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., AFP Chief of Staff Gen.Romeo Brawner Jr., and US Ambassador MaryKay Carlson were among the distinguished observers of the exercise. The event also featured a guided tour of the Osprey aircraft, providing a firsthand look at its advanced capabilities for rapid deployment in humanitarian aid and disaster relief operations.
Ambassador Carlson reaffirmed the unwavering support from the United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM), wich has been instrumental in assisting the AFP in delivering vital aid to areas impacted by successive monsoon seasons.
To date, the collaborative efforts have resulted in the successful transportation and prepositioning of 4,800 DSWD food packs, reaching even remote locations such as the Batanes Islands.
Secretary teodoro emphasized the profound shared values that form the bedrock of the Philippine-US alliance. “Our partnership is premised on a fundamental value, the irreplaceable worth we place on every human life. That is very valuable to both of us. We respect each other, we respect human lives, and we are here to preserve that fundamental value,” Teodoro stated in a Department of National Defense press release.
he further expressed gratitude to the United States, stating, “To our treaty partners, the United States of America, we say thank you. And this will not be the last time. In the spirit of multilateralism, in the spirit of our bilateral people-to-people ties, we hope this partnership will be sustained and enhanced to contribute to the greater good of humankind.”
