‘Phantom of the Opera’ Broadway Run Extended After Ticket surge
New York-Broadway’s longest-running show, “The Phantom of the Opera,” will continue its performances for eight weeks longer than initially planned. the musical, which had previously announced a February closing date due to declining ticket sales, experienced an unexpected surge in demand.
Cameron Mackintosh,the show’s producer,revealed that “The Phantom of the Opera” will now run until April 16.The reversal comes after a significant boost in ticket sales, including a Thanksgiving week that generated $2.2 million, according to reports.
Mackintosh acknowledged the remarkable turnaround. “What a phenomenal response there has been to the show ending,” Mackintosh said. “We’ve sold out virtually everything that we have on sale.”
The andrew Lloyd Webber musical, directed by Hal Prince, will celebrate its 35th anniversary in January. “Phantom” tells the story of a masked figure haunting the Paris Opera House. The show won seven Tony Awards in 1988.
