SCRANTON, Pa. — The University of Scranton held its 25th annual Northeastern Pennsylvania Brain Bee competition on Saturday in Lackawanna County, drawing 11 high school students eager to test their knowledge of neuroscience. The event offered a challenging platform for students to explore topics ranging from emotions to stress.
Muyan Liu, a junior from Philadelphia, emerged as the winner, securing a $400 prize and a $1,000 scholarship to the University of Scranton. Her victory also qualifies her to compete in the National Brain Bee in California.
The Brain Bee competition is gaining traction as a key event for aspiring neuroscientists, highlighting a growing national interest in brain science education at the high school level. Liu expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming national competition. “I think there will definitely be more competition there,” she said. “I’m really looking forward to keep preparing for the nationals and to learn more knowledge about neuroscience.”
Currently a student at a Philadelphia-area high school, Liu plans to pursue a dual course of study in neuroscience and psychology at the University of Pennsylvania.
