Bryce Harper Injury: Phillies’ Star Out with Wrist Inflammation
Updated June 7, 2025
PITTSBURGH — The Philadelphia Phillies’ struggles deepened Saturday as they placed first baseman Bryce Harper on the 10-day injured list.Harper is sidelined with right wrist inflammation. The move, announced before their game against the Pirates, is retroactive to Friday, when Harper sat out the 5-4 loss.
Harper, a two-time National League MVP and eight-time All-Star, has a .258 batting average with 9 home runs, 34 RBIs, and 8 stolen bases in 57 games this season. He previously missed five games in late May and early June after being hit by a pitch from Atlanta’s Spencer Strider, resulting in a bruised right elbow.
Alec Bohm is expected to shift from third base to first during Harper’s absence. Edmundo sosa will take over at third.
The Phillies’ recent slump has seen them lose seven of their last eight games. This skid dropped them from leading the NL East by two games to trailing the New York Mets by 2 1/2 games entering Saturday’s contest. Before this downturn, Philadelphia had won 11 of 12 games.
In a corresponding move, the Phillies purchased the contract of infielder/outfielder Otto Kemp from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 25-year-old Kemp, yet to make his major league debut, was named International League Player of the Month in April. He boasts a .317 average with 14 home runs, 55 rbis, and 11 stolen bases in 57 triple-A games.
The Phillies also recalled right-hander Daniel Robert from Lehigh Valley and optioned righty Alan Rangel. Rangel, 27, made his major league debut Friday, allowing two runs in three innings of relief. This marks Robert’s third stint with the Phillies this season. The 30-year-old has allowed one run in two-thirds of an inning across two games.
What’s next
The Phillies hope Harper’s stint on the injured list is brief as they aim to regain their earlier-season form and compete for the NL East title. The performance of Bohm and Sosa in their new roles will be closely watched.
