Updated June 7, 2025
The search for missing Queensland teenager Pheobe Bishop has ended tragically with the discovery of human remains in Good Night Scrub National Park. Police confirmed the discovery Friday, bringing a somber close to the three-week examination. The remains, found in a remote section of the park, are believed to be those of the 17-year-old.
A crime scene is now under police guard in the rugged, isolated area, approximately an hour from Bishop’s hometown of Gin Gin, near Bundaberg. The location is about 9 kilometers from where authorities previously found items of interest.Wild pigs and dogs inhabit the dense bushland, complicating the investigation.
James Wood, 34, and Tanika Bromley, 33, who lived with Bishop, have been charged with her murder and two counts of interfering with a corpse. They remain in police custody.
Detective Inspector Craig Mansfield told reporters that the remains had been at the location since Bishop disappeared on May 15. Telecommunications data led investigators to the site. He described the national park as “vast and unforgiving terrain.” Bishop’s luggage has not yet been found, and forensic analysis of the Gin Gin house is ongoing.
