Prosecutors allege that Lewis failed to report an additional $807,142 in income for the 2020 tax year. The indictment claims that Lewis failed to report an additional $390,566 in income for the 2021 tax year to his tax preparer.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office alleged that instead of reporting these funds, Lewis stored the unclaimed money in a variety of accounts, including personal, business, and brokerage accounts, as well as cryptocurrency accounts.

Potential Penalties and Federal Context

If convicted of the charges, Lewis faces a maximum penalty of three years in prison. He also faces a potential fine of up to $250,000.

The indictment of Lewis comes after the Department of Justice launched the National Fraud Enforcement Division on April 7.
