Strategic pit stops are substantially impacting the Monaco Grand Prix, with Lando Norris,Oscar Piastri, and Lewis hamilton all maneuvering for position. Norris, after setting a blistering pace, pitted and rejoined the race in fourth place.
Piastri, who had been holding off Max Verstappen in third, also pitted. A slightly clumsy stop saw him inherit fourth position, behind Norris, costing him valuable time. Hamilton pitted earlier, at the end of lap 18, and now sits in fifth, having overtaken Isack Hadjar.
Verstappen currently leads the race, following Charles Leclerc’s pit stop, but he has yet to pit himself. The question remains whether he will extend his stint and hope for a safety car to facilitate his first stop. The mandatory two-stop rule, as noted during Sky’s coverage, is already injecting considerable chaos into the race.
“are the pit stops dominating the race already? Is it too artificial?” Martin Brundle,Sky Sports said.
