Piastri holds ‍a⁢ 22-point advantage over Norris, having secured five victories in the first 10 races. With 14 races remaining, including the upcoming Austrian Grand Prix,⁢ the competition remains fierce. McLaren has dominated this Formula 1 ‍season, winning seven of the‍ ten⁣ races. Max Verstappen ‍of Red Bull has claimed two victories, while George Russell of Mercedes secured a win in Canada. despite McLaren’s strong performance and a meaningful lead over Mercedes in the constructors’ standings, Piastri’s lead over Verstappen in⁢ the driver standings is only 43 points, making ‍the championship battle a tight one.

When⁢ questioned about his lead and⁣ the possibility of seeking preferential treatment, Piastri⁢ responded, “Your version of healthy is much bigger than mine. I just want, and we all want,⁤ a fair chance trying to win both championships. ‍Especially in the drivers’ championship because ⁣ultimately it can only be one of us.”

He added, “I⁢ think the situation has to ‍change dramatically to start having those conversations, and they’re a very long way away ‍at the moment. So at the moment, ‍all I can ask for is a fair chance to try and win the championship, and that’s what I want as well. No, I’m not willing ‍to enter those talks ‍at⁢ all.”

Norris ‍separately commented that the Canadian Grand Prix incident has ⁣strengthened the team. he expressed feeling “good and excited” for the⁣ upcoming race weekend. “It is indeed part and parcel of sport and human to make mistakes, and we have become much better as a team as to how we learn from it and improve.⁣ And from that point, it ⁢was⁣ an unfortunate positive,” Norris said.

What’s next

McLaren aims to maintain it’s competitive edge at ⁣the Austrian Grand Prix, with both Piastri and Norris focused on securing valuable points in their ⁤pursuit of ⁤the⁣ Formula⁢ 1 championship. Piastri expressed confidence that the team will perform strongly in Austria, despite Canada being the first race this season without a McLaren driver on the front row or⁤ podium.
