Oscar Piastri⁢ triumphed at the Spanish⁢ grand Prix, leading teammate Lando Norris to a McLaren one-two finish. The race saw intense battles and a post-race penalty for Max Verstappen after an incident with George Russell.

Piastri controlled ​the race ⁤from start to‍ finish, only briefly relinquishing the lead to Verstappen during pit stop rotations. Norris secured second place,‌ followed by Charles⁢ Leclerc, who capitalized on a late safety car to overtake Verstappen.

Verstappen’s race unravelled after a heated exchange with Russell on Lap ‍64, resulting in⁤ a 10-second penalty. Nico Hulkenberg, Lewis Hamilton, Isack Hadjar, and Pierre Gasly rounded out the top eight. Fernando Alonso claimed ninth, securing his ⁣first top-ten finish of⁢ the ⁣season. Verstappen ultimately ‍finished ⁢tenth after the penalty was applied.

The race began with 19 cars​ after Aston Martin withdrew Lance Stroll due to a wrist injury. Verstappen initially​ overtook Norris at the start, but Piastri maintained his lead. A ‍strategic battle unfolded, with Verstappen ⁢pitting early for soft tires.

A safety car deployment after Andrea⁢ Kimi Antonelli’s power unit failure on Lap 55 shook up the order. Verstappen,on hard tires for the restart,struggled,allowing Leclerc to pass. The stewards‌ investigated Verstappen and Leclerc after they made contact during the pass, but no action was ‌taken.

Verstappen’s frustration boiled over when ‌he was instructed to let Russell pass, resulting in a dangerous move that ‍earned him a penalty. Norris later joked about ⁣Verstappen’s driving, comparing it to “Mario Kart.”

“The overall pace was really good ⁣and‍ we could turn it on when we needed to and just very proud of⁣ the work we’ve done this weekend,” Piastri said, reflecting on his dominant‍ weekend.

Hulkenberg’s fifth-place finish ⁤marked his best result since 2019. Piastri’s victory extends his lead in the drivers’ standings over norris to ten‌ points.
