Search for Missing Arizona Woman Continues, Person of Interest Released
The search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, who disappeared from her home in Rio Rico, Arizona on February 1st, continues, even after a person previously detained for questioning was released. Authorities in Pima County, with support from the FBI, had detained an individual for interrogation regarding Guthrie’s disappearance, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
The individual was initially stopped by law enforcement during a traffic stop south of Tucson and was being questioned in connection with the investigation. Police stated they would release additional information as it became available. However, that individual has since been released, according to reports from CNN, NBC News, CBS News, Yahoo, and The New York Times.
The FBI recently released images of a person, obscured by a mask and armed, believed to be a suspect in the case. The footage shows the individual manipulating the security camera at the front door of Nancy Guthrie’s residence during the early hours of February 1st, the night she vanished. The released videos, less than a minute in length, provide the first visual evidence of someone outside Guthrie’s home.
Kash Patel, the director of the FBI, stated in an interview with Fox News that investigators have made progress in the investigation. While details of that progress haven’t been publicly released, the FBI’s continued involvement signals the seriousness of the case.
The investigation is focused on determining the circumstances surrounding Guthrie’s disappearance and identifying any potential suspects. The release of the security footage and the initial detention of a person of interest demonstrate the active nature of the investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
Savannah Guthrie, Nancy Guthrie’s daughter, has been publicly involved in raising awareness about her mother’s disappearance. The case has garnered significant media attention, with updates being closely followed by news outlets across the country.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI are continuing to work together on the investigation, utilizing all available resources to locate Nancy Guthrie and determine what happened to her. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are committed to pursuing all leads in the case.
