PHOENIX, AZ – February 10, 2026 – The landscape of golf equipment is undergoing a shift and early indications from the “Fully Fit 2026” initiative suggest Ping’s new G440 K driver is poised to be a major disruptor. A panel of six GOLF content creators recently underwent full-bag fittings at six major club manufacturers, beginning at Ping’s Proving Grounds in Phoenix, and the G440 K consistently exceeded expectations.

The “Fully Fit 2026” project, as detailed by GOLF.com, aims to provide golfers with insights into the best 2026 gear for their individual games. The panel – comprised of Jack Hirsh, Johnny Wunder, Jake Morrow, Maddi MacClurg, and Wadeh Maroun (with Sean Zak joining the following day) – was put through a rigorous fitting process, starting with the driver.

What surprised many was the performance of the G440 K. Initial assumptions positioned it as a high-spin, max-forgiveness driver geared towards slower swing speeds. However, panelists found it to be a versatile performer capable of delivering both speed and control.

Johnny Wunder, a member of the fitting panel, expressed his surprise. “You have your preconceived notions of what that driver is supposed to be,” Wunder said. “What it actually is thoroughly surprised me. Typically a driver like that for me is something I’m always worried about it spinning too much or just something I don’t need it to be, and this driver was significantly better than everything else that I hit.”

Hirsh, Morrow, and Wunder all left the Ping fitting feeling confident that the G440 K could find a place in their bags, despite still having five more manufacturer fittings to complete. The driver’s performance challenged their initial expectations and opened the possibility of incorporating it into their final equipment setups.

Ping’s commitment to engineering is evident not only in its clubs but also in the advanced Ping Co-Pilot app used by its fitters. This technology assists in building optimized bags, and several panelists, including Hirsh, Wunder, and Maroun, had prior experience with the app. The integration of technology into the fitting process underscores Ping’s dedication to precision and personalization.

Beyond the driver, the fittings also yielded interesting results in other club categories. Wadeh Maroun initially anticipated being fit into Ping’s players irons but ultimately found a better fit with the company’s new, unreleased hollow-bodied players distance irons. Maddi MacClurg focused on optimizing her club gapping, ensuring minimal overlap between her clubs.

Adding to the experience was a visit from six-time PGA Tour winner and Fully Equipped contributor Rocco Mediate, a long-time Ping player. Mediate’s assessment of Wunder’s progress was particularly direct, suggesting he might have found his ideal driver in the G440 K and should perhaps curtail further testing. “You need to continue on this club test thing here,” Mediate reportedly told Wunder, “And then stop.”

The first day of fittings concluded with a sense of optimism among the panelists. Each felt they could assemble a competitive set of Ping clubs, but acknowledged that the journey was far from over. The remaining fittings at other manufacturers would provide further opportunities to refine their equipment choices.

The initial response to the Ping G440 K driver has been overwhelmingly positive, as evidenced by coverage on Golf.com and YouTube reviews. A review on Golf Monthly highlighted the driver’s ability to balance speed and forgiveness, addressing a common challenge for faster swing players. A YouTube review from January 13, 2026, further detailed the driver’s forgiving nature, attributing it to the 32-gram adjustable rear weight.

The “Fully Fit 2026” initiative is providing a unique and comprehensive approach to golf club testing. By involving a diverse panel of golfers and conducting fittings at multiple manufacturers, the project aims to offer valuable insights for golfers of all skill levels. The early results suggest that the Ping G440 K driver is a strong contender in the 2026 driver market, challenging conventional wisdom and offering a compelling combination of performance and forgiveness.

Golfers interested in experiencing a similar fitting process can find locations through True Spec Golf, as highlighted by GOLF.com.
