Google Photos Gains AI-Powered Editing Features with Pixel 10 Launch
Introduction
Google announced a new feature for the Google Photos app on Wednesday, coinciding with the unveiling of the Pixel 10 series. The update introduces AI-powered interactive editing capabilities, initially available on Pixel 10 devices in the United States, as reported by GSMarena.
AI-Powered Interactive Editing
The new feature allows users to describe desired photo modifications using natural language – either text or voice commands – and have the changes applied automatically. This functionality is powered by Google’s Gemini AI model, offering an open experience where users aren’t restricted to specific tools. Users can simply articulate their vision, and the AI handles the execution.
Examples provided by Google include requests like “removing cars from the background,” “restoring this old image,” “removing the reflections and fixing dull colors,” or simply “improving them.” The system also offers suggestions for users unsure of what adjustments to make, with the ability to refine results through follow-up instructions.
C2PA Support and content Authenticity
Pixel 10 devices are the first to integrate Content Authenticity Initiative (C2PA) standards directly into the native camera application, applying to both original images and those modified with AI. Google Photos also now supports C2PA technology, enabling users to view information about a photo’s creation and editing history based on C2PA data. This feature will initially be available on the Pixel 10 series and will be progressively rolled out to Android and iOS devices “in the coming weeks.”
