The Battery health assistance feature will adjust the battery’s maximum voltage in stages, starting at 200 charge cycles and continuing gradually until 1,000 charge cycles. Google will also tune the phone’s charging speed based on adjusted capacity. This should stabilize battery performance and slow down aging.
Google says the Pixel 8a and newer models are designed to retain up to 80% capacity for about 1,000 charge cycles, an increase from the 800 cycles of previous models.
the Battery health assistance feature may result in small decreases in battery runtime as the battery ages.
The Pixel 9a will be the first device to have “Battery health assistance settings” enabled by default, and users will not be able to turn it off. Google plans to bring this feature to previously launched devices as an optional setting.
The latest version of Settings service includes descriptions of the battery health assistance feature. For older devices, an on/off toggle called “Use battery health assistance” will be available.
