Updated June 13,2025
Google’s Pixel 6a,a popular and more affordable smartphone,is under scrutiny due to reports of battery overheating. These concerns have prompted Google to consider a firmware update that would limit the device’s battery capacity and charging capabilities to mitigate potential fire risks.
Several users have reported incidents of Pixel 6a devices catching fire. One user described flames shooting from the back panel, while another reported a similar incident during charging. These reports, initially considered isolated, may indicate a broader issue, as suggested by measures found in the Android 16 QPR1 Beta update.
The planned software updates for the Pixel 6a will reportedly include warnings about potential battery hazards. The update aims to reduce battery capacity and charging performance to address the overheating issue.
