Google Pixel VIPs App Update Focuses on Key contacts
Updated June 9, 2025
Google Pixel users were surprised Sunday with an unexpected app update: Pixel VIPs. This new feature aims to enhance connections with vital people.
The Google Play Store describes Pixel VIPs as a tool to “stay connected to the people who matter most and never miss a moment from them.” The app’s icon resembles Google Contacts, but features a blue heart.
Screenshots suggest a widget similar to the Favorite contacts feature in Google Contacts. the app includes a Highlights tab, with VIPs marked by a heart icon. A key feature allows VIPs to bypass Do Not Disturb mode.
Tapping the widget or accessing through Contacts opens a full-screen feed, displaying profile images and contact options, including calling, messaging, and WhatsApp. The feed also shows upcoming birthdays.
Additional features include:
- Last connection: Displays the last call and message history.
- Location updates: Shows a map with real-time location, weather, and time.
- Notes: A card-based UI similar to Google Keep for one-off notes.
- Things to do together: Activity suggestions based on user preferences.
Quickly and easily connect with the people who matter most to you.
The ”Pixel VIPs” feature, previously known as “besties,” was spotted in development within the contacts app in July 2024. The notes functionality offers a centralized alternative to Google Keep.
Pixel VIPs (com.google.android.apps.pixel.relationships) operates as a background service. After installing version 1.0.766545851, no features are currently live, suggesting a server-side component is required for activation.
The Pixel VIPs update has been observed on Google Pixel devices running Android 15 (May 2025 patch). It does not appear on the Android 16 QPR1 Beta.
What’s next
Users can anticipate the activation of Pixel VIPs features through a server-side update, enhancing contact management and communication on Google Pixel devices. The new Pixel VIPs app promises enhanced connectivity with key contacts.
