Cirebon Marks World AIDS Day with Renewed Commitment to Fight HIV/AIDS
Cirebon, Illinois – World AIDS Day is more than just a ceremonial event; it’s a crucial moment to reaffirm our collective commitment to combating the spread of HIV/AIDS and supporting those living with the virus, said Cirebon Acting Mayor Agus Mulyadi.
Speaking at the city’s World AIDS Day observance held at the Islamic Center on Wednesday,December 4th,2024,Mulyadi emphasized the importance of addressing the social and human rights dimensions of the epidemic.
“This day serves as a reminder that the fight against HIV/AIDS is not solely a health issue, but also a matter of human rights,” Mulyadi stated. “We must work to ensure equal access to healthcare and eliminate the stigma and discrimination faced by individuals living with HIV/AIDS.”
The event, attended by Acting City Secretary Iing Daiman, Secretary of the Cirebon AIDS Commission Sri Maryati, Head of the Cirebon City Health Department Siti Maria Listiawaty, local officials, and stakeholders, highlighted the ongoing challenges posed by HIV/AIDS.
Mulyadi expressed concern over the rising prevalence of HIV/AIDS both nationally and within Cirebon. Citing data, he noted that as of December 2023, Jawa Barat province had recorded 69,655 HIV cases and 14,593 AIDS cases. In Cirebon City, from 2006 to October 2024, the number of HIV cases reached 2,425, with 932 cases of AIDS.
The World AIDS Day commemoration in cirebon served as a call to action, urging continued efforts to raise awareness, promote prevention, and provide support to those affected by HIV/AIDS.
