Terrifying Landing: Air Canada Flight Catches fire in Halifax
Halifax, Nova Scotia – passengers on Air Canada Flight 2259 experienced a night of terror Saturday as their plane skidded off the runway and burst into flames while attempting to land at Halifax Stanfield International Airport.
The flight, arriving from St. John’s, Newfoundland, encountered a landing gear malfunction around 9:30 p.m.local time. passenger Nikki Valentine described a harrowing scene as the plane touched down at a sharp angle.
“The plane started to sit at about a 20-degree angle to the left,” Valentine recounted.”We heard a loud crash sound as the wing of the plane started to skid along the pavement. The plane shook quite a bit, and we started seeing fire on the left side of the plane and smoke started coming in the windows.”
Valentine, who estimated the plane was carrying around 80 passengers, praised the crew’s swift response. “One side of the entire plane was on fire, so everyone was pretty much in a hurry to get off, but it was an organized hurry,” she said.
Miraculously, all passengers and crew members escaped the burning aircraft safely. Paramedics checked everyone at the scene, and there were no reports of serious injuries.
Halifax Airport officials confirmed the incident but did not disclose the number of passengers on board. The cause of the landing gear malfunction is currently under investigation.
This incident comes just hours after a tragic plane crash in South Korea claimed the lives of nearly 200 people. The Jeju Air flight, carrying 181 passengers from Bangkok, veered off the runway and collided with a wall at Muan International Airport, bursting into flames.
