The Planned Parenthood health center located on St. Michael’s Drive in Santa Fe is scheduled to reopen to patients on May 11, 2026, following a closure that lasted more than a year.

The facility ceased operations in January 2025. According to Adrienne Mansanares, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, the closure was the result of a lack of staff, which the organization attributed to a nationwide shortage of providers.

To facilitate the reopening, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains has hired a nurse practitioner and a new health center manager. Mansanares stated that training for these new employees is currently underway, and the organization is continuing efforts to fill additional support positions at the clinic.

During the period the health center was closed, the regional affiliate—which serves New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming—maintained a presence in Santa Fe through other means. These services included the provision of telehealth options, the placement of sexual health educators in local schools, and the presence of advocates at the New Mexico Legislature.

Mansanares noted the importance of restoring physical clinic operations to the community.

“We’re looking to begin welcoming patients back in mid-May,” she said. “Isn’t it exciting? I can’t wait.”

Mansanares added that it will be really nice to add the health care side back to the organization’s local offerings in Santa Fe.

The return of health care operations in Santa Fe occurs as New Mexico has become a destination for individuals seeking abortion services. This shift followed the 2022 U.S. Supreme Court decision to overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling, which allowed individual states to implement severe restrictions on abortion access.
