Dzib’s dedication to the well-being of children with cancer has made her a respected figure in Quintana Roo.The Aitana Foundation has provided constant support to this vulnerable population for 13 years.
Upon receiving the award, Dzib expressed gratitude and reflected on the origins of her work, which stemmed from a personal experience.
Today, when I received this medal, my heart is filled with gratitude, pleasant memories and others not so many.
Dzib continued,
This medal is not only mine, it is indeed one of each child who has touched the bell of victory, of each mother and father who have seen in our eyes the promise that they are not alone. Today I reaffirm my commitment to continue fighting and make childhood cancer not a sentence of fear or abandonment.
During the ceremony, Quintana Roo Gov. Mara Lezama emphasized the importance of the award and recognized Dzib’s strength and dedication.
Lezama stated,
Today we calls us a reason that transcends time: pay tribute to the greatness of women, to tenacity, unwavering courage, to our ability to transform adversity into hope. And we commemorate it through a woman whose history is testimony of resilience, an example of love turned into action, of struggle transformed into a legacy that transcends.
The governor added,
it is indeed an honor to deliver this medal to you, as you are an example that, in the most arduous moments, pain can become light; Because you have shown that irreparable loss can be transformed into a cause that saves lives.
A Legacy of Support
Over the years, the Aitana Foundation has offered programs including health services, transportation, food, lodging, and recreational activities.
With the collaboration of national and international institutions, and having raised more than 8.5 million pesos, the Foundation assisted 273 patients in the last year. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is among the most common diagnoses among the children treated.
The foundation’s origins trace back to a personal experience.In 2002, Dzib and her family faced her daughter Aitana’s leukemia diagnosis at age 7.
