PlayStation Network outage ‘beyond frustrating’ for users
The PlayStation Network, a staple for millions of gamers worldwide, is currently grappling with a significant outage that commenced Friday evening. This multi-hour issue has Left a widespread impact, affecting core services like account management, gaming and social features, PlayStation Video, and the PlayStation Store.
Gamers have reported widespread difficulties accessing popular titles such as Fortnite, Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, and Marvel’s Avengers. The license verification process for offline single-player games has also been disrupted, causing further frustration among users.
PlayStation acknowledged the issue on their support channels, assuring users that they are actively working to resolve the matter as quickly as possible.
According to DownDetector, more than 71,000 users reported the outage soon after midnight on Friday. Social media platforms are flooded with complaints from gamers around the globe, expressing their dissatisfaction with the extended downtime.
Jeff Thigpen, a 48-year-old gamer from Dallas, expressed his frustration, stating he has been unable to access the PSN for over 10 hours. “Paying a monthly fee for their service is one thing but not being able to access games that we’ve purchased is beyond frustrating,” he said.
Connor Clarke, who runs the Sheffield Games Collective, noted that this outage has occurred during a crucial weekend for the gaming industry. “It’s doubly frustrating because it’s an eventful weekend for the game-sphere,” he explained. “There is a free beta for a highly anticipated new game, Monster Hunter Wild, and also a double XP weekend in Call of Duty Black Ops 6. I imagine there are thousands—if not millions—of gamers worldwide and in the UK that are quite frustrated that they are unable to play at the moment.”
These extended outages are unusual, typically lasting only a couple of hours at most, according to Clarke. “This one has been over 12 hours,” he commented. “It’s very frustrating. I’m unable to play multiplayer, and more frustratingly, I’m unable to play any of my downloaded single-player games because PlayStation says it is unable to verify my licenses.”
While the industry waits for a resolution, gamers are left hoping for a swift return to their digital playgrounds.
