Poland to Host 2025 European Short Course‍ Swimming Championships

Warsaw, Poland – Fresh off⁤ their historic⁢ first-ever World Championship‍ relay medal, Polish swimmers will have a chance ⁣to ‌shine on‌ home turf. ​European⁤ Aquatics‌ President Antonio​ Silva announced yesterday that Poland will host the 2025 European ​Short Course Swimming Championships.

The​ announcement, made during a⁢ press conference at the World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, didn’t specify the‍ host city. Though, the ⁤news has already generated​ excitement within the Polish swimming community.

“We have a very talented team‌ whose members were very young when we had the last big swimming event back in 2011,the short-course Europeans in Szczecin,” said ‍Polish Swimming Federation president Otylia Jędrzejczak. “Now they‍ can show their quality in a home meet.”

This marks the second time Poland will host a European Championships, short course or long course, in the event’s nearly 100-year history. The 2011 Short Course European Championships were⁣ held in⁣ Szczecin.

The federation is partnering with Poland.Travel to promote tourism during the ​event, offering fans‌ and athletes a⁤ chance to experience Poland’s rich culture.

The announcement aligns with‌ Poland’s recent push to leverage sports tourism. In 2022,the ⁣Ministry of Sports and Tourism ⁤significantly increased ⁣funding for hosting ⁣international competitions,stepping in ‌to host events originally planned for Russia following ‌its invasion of Ukraine.

This year,the Ministry launched a PLN51.5 million ($12.6 million) initiative to promote tourism through⁤ Polish club sports ​teams.

The ⁣European Short Course Championships are typically held in early December during odd-numbered years. Poland currently ranks 10th on the all-time medal table for the championships, with a total of‍ 35 gold, 31 silver, and 29 bronze medals.
