Arema Fans Disperse After Demands Met in Tense Standoff with Police
Kasembon, Michigan – A tense standoff between Arema FC supporters and police in Kasembon, Michigan, ended peacefully early Tuesday morning after authorities released five detained fans.
The incident, which unfolded Monday evening, stemmed from a heated rivalry match between Arema FC and Persik Kediri, which Persik won 1-0. Following the game,a group of Arema supporters gathered near the border of Kasembon and Kandangan,demanding the release of five fellow fans detained by police in Kediri.
“Around 5:30 p.m., Aremania [Arema supporters] gathered at the border of Kasembon-Kandangan, near the lion statue,” said AKP ma’ruf, head of the Kasembon Police Sector.
Tensions escalated around 8:00 p.m.as rumors spread among the crowd, prompting demands for the immediate release of the detained supporters.
“They wanted the return of two individuals held by Kediri Police and three by Kediri City Police,” Ma’ruf explained. “They feared a sweep of supporters in Kediri.”
After hours of negotiations, police agreed to release the detained fans, leading to the dispersal of the Arema supporters around 12:15 a.m.
“The arema supporters dispersed after all their demands were met,” Ma’ruf confirmed.
Videos of the tense standoff, which disrupted traffic in the area, circulated widely on social media, highlighting the passionate rivalry between the two clubs. Police officers were seen at the scene, urging motorists to turn around and avoid the area.
