Michał Szubarczyk has established himself as a historic figure in professional snooker, becoming the youngest player to ever turn professional. As of April 6, 2026, the 15-year-old from Lublin, Poland, holds a world ranking of 98, having reached a peak ranking of 97 in March 2026.

The Polish prodigy’s entry into the professional ranks occurred in 2025. He secured his professional status at the age of 14 after reaching the final of the EBSA European Championship in Antalya, Türkiye. During that tournament, Szubarczyk also captured the EBSA European Under-16 and Under-18 Championship titles.

Although he lost the main event final to former professional Liam Highfield, Szubarczyk’s performance was sufficient to make history. Because Highfield had already secured professional status earlier that week at the WPBSA Q Tour Play-Offs, the tour card nomination passed to the teenager.

International Championship Success

Szubarczyk’s rise was preceded by a series of dominant performances in international amateur competition. In August 2024, he won the IBSF World Under-21 Snooker Championship in Bengaluru, India, where he defeated Germany’s Alexander Widau in the final. This victory made him the youngest ever winner of the Under-21 tournament.

He continued this momentum into 2025 by winning the IBSF World Men’s Snooker Championship. This title win provided him with a nomination for a two-year tour card on the World Snooker Tour, effective from the 2025-26 snooker season.

His transition to the professional circuit has seen him record a highest break of 115 and accumulate money list earnings of £27,450. In his debut appearance in the World Snooker Championship qualifying rounds in 2025, he reached a close contest before being defeated 10-8 by Dean Young.

Early Career and Domestic Dominance

Before achieving global recognition, Szubarczyk dominated the Polish national circuit. At the age of 12, he won the Polish national championships at both the under-18 and under-21 levels. He also became the Polish champion in six-red snooker, the Polish under-16 pool champion, and the Polish junior champion at the Snooker Shoot Out.

By January 2024, at the age of 13, he had already progressed to the quarter-final of the senior Polish snooker championships. His early development included scoring his first maximum break in practice at age 12.

Support System and Personal Life

Szubarczyk’s progression has been heavily supported by his family. His father, Kamil, previously ran his own business before transitioning to part-time work to serve as his son’s manager and snooker coach. The pair originally developed an interest in the sport by watching it together on television, leading them to begin playing at a local club when Michał was six years old.

His foundational training from age 6 to 12 was led by Mateusz Nowak, the assistant head coach of the European Billiards and Snooker Association, who also coached Kamil Szubarczyk.

To manage the demands of professional training and competition, Szubarczyk utilizes home education rather than traditional schooling. Outside of snooker, he maintains interests in chess and football.

Current Form and World Championship Pursuit

As of April 6, 2026, Szubarczyk remains a focal point of Polish sporting interest during the World Championship cycle. Recent reports from Przegląd Sportowy and Sport Interia highlight his continued impact on the table, including a notable 124-point break.

Current reporting indicates that the 15-year-old is pursuing a goal of winning 10 frames in the World Championships. He has also been noted for competing against high-caliber opponents, including a three-time world champion, as he seeks to challenge long-standing records in the sport.
