Police Partner with Agriculture Ministry to Boost Food Security
Cianjur, Indonesia – In a move to strengthen national food security, the Indonesian National Police (Polri) has pledged full support to the Ministry of Agriculture‘s (Kementan) efforts to accelerate food production.
During a Technical Working Meeting (Rakernis) in Cianjur, West Java, Deputy Chief of Police, Commissioner General Fadil Imran, emphasized the importance of a collaborative approach to achieving food security.
“This isn’t just the responsibility of the government or the agricultural sector,” Imran stated. ”It requires the involvement of all parties.”
He highlighted the police force’s commitment to supporting the Kementan’s initiatives,particularly in boosting corn production.
“We will act as facilitators for farmers, farmer groups, and communities, helping them overcome challenges related to land availability, seed supply, fertilizer access, and more,” Imran explained.
The partnership will see the police launch pilot projects aimed at increasing corn production.
Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman welcomed the police’s involvement, calling it a “remarkable collaboration.”
“We are grateful for this support and hope the police can focus on assisting with food security efforts,” Sulaiman said.
He expressed optimism that the collaboration would lead to stricter monitoring of fertilizer distribution and agricultural aid, preventing issues like counterfeit fertilizers and misuse of assistance.
Following the meeting, imran and his delegation visited Jamali Village in Mande District to inspect a six-hectare plot of land dedicated to growing FKDB Polri hybrid corn. This initiative showcases the tangible steps being taken to translate the partnership into action.
