New Leadership for Dicastery and Pontifical Commission
Effective October 15, 2025, Monsignor filippo Iannone, O. Carm., will assume the role of Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops and President of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America (CAL). He transitions from his previous position as Prefect of the Dicastery for legislative Texts, bringing a wealth of experience in canon law and Vatican governance to his new responsibilities. The Pontifical Commission for Latin America plays a crucial role in advising the Pope on matters concerning the Church in Latin America, a region with a significant Catholic population.
Continuity in Key Secretariat Roles
Demonstrating confidence in existing leadership, Pope Leo XIV has reconfirmed Monsignor Ilson of jesús Montanari as Secretary of the Dicastery for Bishops for another five-year term. Similarly, Monsignor Ivan Kovač will continue to serve as Undersecretary of the Dicastery for Bishops, also for a period of five years.
