Pope Francis Embarks on 46th International Apostolic Journey to Luxembourg and Belgium

Pope Francis has arrived in Luxembourg, marking the beginning of his 46th international apostolic journey. The pontiff will also visit Belgium during his trip, which is scheduled to conclude on September 29.

Upon arrival at Luxembourg Findel Airport, the Pope was welcomed by the Grand Duke of Luxembourg. The national anthems of the Vatican and Luxembourg were played during the welcoming ceremony, which took place in the airport’s VIP lounge. Hundreds of young people gathered at the airport to catch a glimpse of the Pope, who took the time to greet and speak with several of them.

Meeting with Homeless Individuals

Before departing from Rome, Pope Francis met with approximately 10 homeless individuals, including both men and women, at the Casa Santa Marta. These individuals typically spend their nights under the colonnades of St. Peter’s Square or in the surrounding streets.

Day’s Itinerary

The Pope’s schedule in Luxembourg includes a courtesy visit to the Grand Ducal Palace, where he will meet with the Grand Duke. He will also meet with the Prime Minister and address the authorities, civil society, and the diplomatic corps at the Cercle Cité. In the afternoon, the Pope will engage with the local Catholic community at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Luxembourg, delivering his second speech of the day. Following his engagements in Luxembourg, the Pope will depart for Belgium, where he will remain until September 29.
