Pope Francis Sounds the Alarm: A Desperate Cry for Climate Action and a Call to End Suffering
Pope Francis Remembers Victims of Climate Crisis, Renews Call for Peace
On Wednesday, September 18, Pope Francis addressed the crowd in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican, remembering those suffering due to climate crises and renewing his call for world peace.
A Call for Peace Amidst Global Conflicts
As conflicts and armed wars continue to threaten world peace, Pope Francis invited the world’s conscience to pray for peace. He emphasized that war is always a failure and specifically mentioned the conflicts in Palestine, Israel, Ukraine, and Myanmar.
The Pope wished for God to give heart to all who seek peace, overcoming the failure of war. He also addressed the crowd in Italian, calling for an end to wars and prayers for those who suffer from war.
Climate Crisis in Europe
The Pope remembered the people of Austria, Romania, the Czech Republic, and Poland, who are suffering due to heavy rains and climatic crises in Central and Eastern Europe. He offered his prayers and spiritual presence to those affected, including those who lost their lives and their families.
The Pope thanked local Catholic communities and others who are helping people in this crisis. At least 22 people have lost their lives in storm Boris, which has swept through Central and Eastern Europe, with seven more yet to be discovered.
First Public Meeting After Apostolic Tour
This public meeting marked the Pope’s first since returning to the Vatican from his apostolic tour of Asia-Oceania from September 2 to 13. The Pope thanked everyone who worked for the smooth conduct of his apostolic journey.
