Pope Leads Solemn Tribute: A Day of Prayer at Rome’s Laurentian Cemetery on All Souls’ Day
Rome: Pope Francis visited Laurentino, one of Rome’s largest cemeteries, on the Feast of All Dead. The Mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri and the faithful welcomed the Pope who arrived in Laurentino, 30 kilometers away from the Vatican, at 10 am local time on Saturday.
The Pope said a silent prayer in a special area set aside for dead and unborn babies, known as the “Garden of the Angels”. The Pope visited the cemetery and offered the Holy Sacrifice to the dead believers.
This is one of the various cemeteries in Rome. In a prayer before the blessing at the end of the Mass, the Pope said that mortal bodies will rise on the last day and those who have fallen asleep in the Lord will share in the victory over death.
Papa has also visited here in 2021. During a visit to the cemetery in 2021, Pope Francis spoke for a few moments with Stefano, a father who lost his baby during pregnancy. Later, the father offered flowers and prayed in front of the grave where the baby was buried.
Before the Mass, the Pope offered a special prayer in the same place called the “Garden of Angels” where the children were buried last year, on the Feast of the Dead, the Pope’s Mass was in the cemetery where the war dead of Rome are buried.
On the Feast of All the Dead, the Pope offered sacrifices in the cemetery; Again a reminder that war is a failure
