Iran Coal Mine Explosion: Pope Francis Offers Condolences
An explosion in a coal mine in Tabas, northeastern Iran, resulted in the loss of at least 50 lives. Pope Francis has expressed his condolences for the victims and their families.
Vatican News reports that the explosion occurred on the evening of September 21, with some individuals still missing. A telegram signed by Cardinal Parolin conveyed the Pope’s message, in which he pledged his prayers for the victims and their grieving families.
The Pope’s message also expressed spiritual solidarity for the wounded and asked God to grant strength, consolation, and peace to all those affected by this tragic event.
Iranian media reports that approximately 70 people were working in the mine when the explosion occurred, caused by a methane gas leak. Local authorities believe that none of the workers trapped in the mine survived.
