Papal Audience and Canonizations
On Thursday, September 11, the prelates were granted a private audience with Pope Francis in the Synod classroom. Prior to the audience, the Dicastery for Evangelization’s training course commenced on September 4, bringing together 78 newly appointed bishops. The Dicastery of Bishops’ course began on September 6 and included 114 participants, among them five bishops from Eastern Catholic Churches and five newly ordained bishops now serving in the Roman Curia. The prelates also venerated the relics of Saint Peter in St. Peter’s Basilica.
On Sunday, September 8 and 9, all the prelates participated in the solemn canonization Mass for Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati and Carlo Acutis. vatican News reported on the importance of the canonizations, highlighting the examples of holiness set by the two new saints.
The two courses shared several common experiences designed to promote collaboration. On September 6, participants processed through the Holy Gate of St. Peter’s Basilica. The courses will conclude with a reflection by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin on “the work of the Holy see in a globalized world in favor of hope and peace.”
