Pope Francis Bids Farewell to East Timor, Heads to Singapore
Pope Francis departed from Dili International Airport at 12:25 noon local time, en route to Singapore, marking the final leg of his 45th international apostolic journey.
Vatican News Network reports that Pope Francis left Dili, the capital of East Timor, for Singapore on September 11. This visit follows his trips to Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.
During his time in Dili, the Pope met with young people and had a brief conversation with East Timor’s President, José Ramos-Horta. Before boarding the plane, the Pope bid farewell to the local entourage and the East Timorese delegation.
The special Dili Airlines plane carrying the Pope took off at 12:25 noon local time and is expected to land at Singapore’s Changi Airport around four hours later. Following the welcoming ceremony, the Pope will attend a private meeting with the Jesuits at the Retreat Center of St. Francis Xavier.
The Pope will stay in Singapore until September 13 before returning to the Vatican. The motto of the Pope’s visit to Singapore is “Unity and Hope”.
