Table of Contents
The roar of engines is set to echo through the historic Ardennes forest as the Porsche mobil 1 Supercup gears up for its fifth round of the 2025 season at the legendary Circuit de Spa-francorchamps in Belgium. This iconic track, renowned for its challenging nature and breathtaking scenery, promises a thrilling spectacle for motorsport fans worldwide.
A Legendary Battleground: The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps
First established in 1921, the circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is steeped in motorsport history. Over the decades, it has undergone several modifications, but its demanding character remains. The current 7.004-kilometre circuit boasts 20 corners and a significant elevation change of approximately 100 metres, earning it the well-deserved moniker, the “Ardennes rollercoaster.” Its proximity to the Belgian-german border also ensures a passionate turnout from German motorsport enthusiasts, adding to the electric atmosphere.
The track presents a series of iconic challenges, beginning with the tight, slow hairpin of “La Source.” From there, drivers descend towards the world-famous “Eau Rouge” and “Raidillon” complex. This exhilarating uphill left-right-left sequence is widely considered one of the most demanding and rewarding corners in international motorsport. Mastering it is indeed absolutely critical, especially as it leads directly onto the long “Kemmel” straight. This straight then funnels into the fast “Les Combes” chicane, a prime location for daring overtaking manoeuvres. As the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars approach the braking zone for Les Combes, they can reach blistering top speeds of around 270 km/h,with an average lap speed hovering close to 180 km/h.
“Spa-Francorchamps is a circuit that truly tests the mettle of every driver and the capabilities of the Porsche 911 GT3 cup car,” says Oliver Schwab, Project Manager Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. “The combination of high-speed straights, challenging corners like Eau Rouge, and the sheer commitment required makes it a fan favorite and a true benchmark for performance.”
