Clarkston Unveils Third Fiber Project: Connecting 800 Homes to High-Speed Internet

In a significant step towards bridging the digital divide, the Port of Clarkston recently completed its third fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) project, transforming internet access for 800 households in Asotin County’s Census Tract 9604. This slice of Clarkston, bound by Poplar and Libby Streets and 13th to 17th Streets, now enjoys internet speeds up to 100 Mbps, courtesy of a collective push by the Port and local partners.

Summit Utility Contractors, LLC, based in neighboring Lewiston, Idaho, finished the physical work on January 21, 2025. The very next day, participating ISPs – Airbridge Broadband, First Step Internet, Inland Cellular, Intermax Networks, and Rodeo Networks – started offering high-speed services to residents. These providers are leveraging the open-access fiber infrastructure leased from the Port.

This isn’t Clarkston’s first rodeo when it comes to expanding broadband access. Since 2013, the Port has installed 26 miles of broadband backbone, connected 22 anchor institutions, and empowered internet access for 2,342 residents and businesses. This persistent effort underscores the Port’s commitment to fostering investment, enhancing local wealth, and elevating the quality of life for Asotin County citizens.

The Port’s success is no solo act; it’s a symphony of collaboration, with the Asotin County Broadband Action Team (ACBAT) playing a pivotal role. Together, they’re turning Clarkston into a digitally connected community, one fiber line at a time.
