November 23, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor Business

As Storm Bert passes, a red rain and wind warning from Met Éireann has expired. However, a yellow wind and rain warning remains for Leinster, Munster, Connacht, Cavan, and Monaghan until midday.

Cork County Council reported no incidents during high tide in Bantry, easing concerns for local businesses and residents affected by last month’s flooding. Crews are actively working across the county.

The R588 road from Copeen to Enniskeane is closed due to flooding. In Ballingeary, the main street is impassable from floodwaters. Additionally, a tree is down on Killumney Road near Cuddihy’s garage.

Storm damage includes a destroyed stone wall on the N72 outside Ballyhooly. Flooding affects the R579 between Healy’s Bridge and Cloghroe.

The Corkmas festive market in Cork city has been canceled today due to the weather but will proceed as scheduled on Sunday.

Power outages affect several areas. In Carrigaline, 120 customers lost power overnight, with repairs expected by 6 PM. In Youghal, 120 customers are without power, with restorations by midday. In Roscarberry, 73 customers will regain power by 2 PM, while Clonakilty has 12 customers still without electricity.

Bus Éireann has canceled some services. Updates are available on their website: Bus Éireann. Met Éireann also provides weather updates at Met Éireann.

A yellow wind warning for Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, and Wicklow will take effect from 5 PM Saturday to 2 AM Sunday.

Earlier, two red warnings were issued for Cork and Galway, predicting severe flooding, damage, and dangerous travel conditions due to Storm Bert.

Cork Airport remains operational, but passengers should check flight status with their airlines. The Cross River Ferry operations are suspended until conditions improve.

In Dunmanway, the Ardcahan Bridge is closed because of rising water levels. Flood barriers are installed in Fermoy and Mallow, with several roads closed due to flooding.

Flooding is reported in Little Island, between Circle K and Euro Business Park, as well as the R600 between Timoleague and Clonakilty. In Ballineen, the Idle Bridge is also impassable.

Power outages continue, with over 1,900 customers without electricity across Cork. Clonakilty has 12 customers still affected.

Cork City Council noted substantial rain could occur, but it doesn’t expect levels warranting a red warning. Motorists are advised to drive carefully and be vigilant of road conditions and debris.

The Department of Social Protection offers a Humanitarian Assistance Scheme for those directly affected by Storm Bert.
