Protests Erupt ‌Across U.S. Over Presidential Power

Demonstrators voice concerns about executive overreach.


WASHINGTON (AP) — From Boston to Houston, and even ⁤in Colorado, citizen ‍movements​ have mobilized to protest what they perceive as⁣ an overreach of power by the current Republican​ president. Rallies took place in ⁣multiple cities, with‌ a significant gathering on ‍the⁣ National Mall in Washington, D.C.

The National⁤ Mall, a vast expanse between the Capitol and the Washington Monument,‌ served‍ as the focal‍ point for demonstrators. The ⁤atmosphere ‌was largely peaceful as thousands congregated ​near the White House to voice​ their concerns.

Protesters brandished signs⁢ with messages addressing various issues,​ including social security and concerns about ​the state of democracy. Some demonstrators displayed American​ flags upside down, a recognized‌ signal of distress that has become a symbol of political ‌protest.

“They ‌are bringing down democracy,” ⁣said⁢ Margie, ‌64, a retired⁤ public​ servant from Maryland,​ referring to President Trump ⁤and Elon ‍Musk.‌ She‍ wore a knitted hood resembling a gas mask, highlighting her concerns about the ​current political climate.

Jane Ellen Saums, 66, a⁣ real estate professional⁤ from Fairfax, Virginia,​ expressed similar worries. “it is indeed​ extremely worrying to see everything that happens to our institutions, and the balance of powers completely upset on ⁤all levels, from the surroundings to individual rights,” she said.

Organizers initially anticipated a turnout of 20,000 in the nation’s​ capital,⁢ but by Saturday afternoon, ⁣they reported ​that participation had exceeded​ expectations.

“Not for Sale”

The demonstrations‌ drew a diverse​ crowd,including retirees,public service employees,and a‍ significant number⁤ of young people,many accompanied by their children.

One protester carried ⁣a sign that read, ​”Democracy is not for sale,” underscoring the‌ sentiment‍ shared by many in ⁢attendance.

Several Democratic figures addressed‍ the‍ crowds, lending ⁣their support to the ⁢cause.

“No‍ person with moral meaning wants ​a dictator sabotaging the economy who ⁢knows the ⁢price of everything ‌and‌ the⁣ value of ⁣nothing,” said Representative⁤ Jamie⁤ Raskin, a​ Democratic member of the House of ‍representatives.

Since returning‌ to the White House on January 20, President Trump has asserted popular legitimacy to justify his interventionist policies, citing‍ a ⁤broad interpretation of ⁢executive⁢ power.

NEW YORK (AP) — ⁣Protests have⁣ sprung ⁢up in various cities across the United States,​ fueled by⁢ a range‍ of political and ‌social grievances. In New York ⁤City, demonstrators voiced their opposition ‍to former President Donald Trump, holding signs and chanting ‌slogans.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP)⁤ —‌ in Asheville, ‌North Carolina, an American flag was​ displayed upside ‍down, ⁢a symbol⁢ often used to⁣ signal distress or ‍protest against ‌the⁣ government. The ⁢demonstration reflected discontent among some residents.

REHOBOTH BEACH, ‍Del.‍ (AP) — Further north,in Rehoboth Beach,Delaware,a ⁣woman held a sign ‍calling for⁢ renewed unity and neighborly​ love. The demonstration‌ highlighted concerns about division within the country.

The protests, while diverse in their specific focus, underscore a period of heightened political and social⁣ tension across the nation. The demonstrations reflect a wide range of concerns, from ⁣political leadership⁢ to social values.

Demonstrations took place across the United States on Saturday,with protesters voicing concerns over social ​welfare cuts,education funding,and what they perceive ⁣as an overreach⁣ of power by the trump administration.

One ​organizing group,Indivisible,released ‍a statement saying,”Donald Trump and Elon⁤ Musk think that this country‍ belongs to them.They take everything on which they ⁤can take the world challenge to stop them.”⁢ The group called for nationwide action,urging people to ‍”descend into the street throughout the country to​ resist with a ‍clear message:⁣ bottom⁢ legs!”

“No King in ⁤the USA”

Protesters‍ cited grievances‌ including ⁣cuts ​to social assistance programs,education,and research,and⁢ also the layoffs​ of civil servants.

Many Democratic voters⁤ have expressed frustration ⁢with their‍ party’s ⁢perceived lack ‍of opposition​ to ⁤the Trump administration’s policies.

Abbott⁤ Sherwin, ​a 19-year-old student from North ⁤Carolina, attended a protest with ​her father and ⁢voiced concerns about a “great disconnection” between elected Democrats and young people. Sherwin ⁢stated that many ‌progressive ‍voters feel the Democratic Party is “deflating, trying to be⁤ too moderate and does not‌ really defend our‌ rights.”

in New York City,‍ Rachael Nevins, who works‌ in higher education, ⁢expressed concern over “attacks⁣ against knowledge,” specifically regarding scholarship funding ​for ⁣researchers and students.

In Denver, ​Colorado, protesters‍ carried signs proclaiming ⁣”No ⁢king in the USA.”

Similar demonstrations were reported in cities around the world, including Berlin, Paris, Rome, and‌ London.

President⁣ Trump spent the⁣ weekend at his Mar-a-Lago resort‌ in Florida.

Townley, 62, who declined to give her last name, said, “I would ⁢have liked him to be there rather than a golf tournament⁢ (in his property ⁢of) ⁤Mar-A-Lago, and that he ​saw that people are on the ‍street.”

Annette, 39, who recently lost her job as⁢ a state contractor, said, “It feels‍ good to see so many‌ people…But that is not enough. People will‌ not mobilize as long as they are not personally victims from Trumpist​ policy,” she predicted.
