1. San Jose City Councilman Omar Torres was arrested for child molestation

On Tuesday (November 5), police arrested San Jose City Councilman Omar Torres to investigate his suspected child molestation.

Police said they initially discovered sexually explicit text messages allegedly involving minors while investigating Torres’ extortion case, and later launched further investigation. Torres himself claimed he was the victim of blackmail, and his lawyer said the text messages were just “ridiculous fantasies and role-playing.”

Since the investigation came to light, Torres has absented himself from City Council meetings and faced calls to resign and to oust him. However, City Councilman Bien Doan said Torres had submitted his resignation on Tuesday before his arrest, so there was no need to remove him.

Torres’ resignation comes after the City Council voted unanimously to remove him from service on all committees, boards and committees. Mayor Mahan noted in a statement that while Torres was not removed entirely as requested by the community, the City Council has stripped him of all service.

Police said more details about the arrest would be released at a press conference on Wednesday.

2. PG&E notified thousands of customers of possible power outages on Tuesday.

Pacific Gas & Electric Co. (PG&E) will implement public safety power outages in six Bay Area counties and 17 other counties in its service area starting Tuesday night. It is expected to affect about 22,000 customers, but this only accounts for PG&E’s total number of customers. A very small portion.

The public safety power outages (PSPS) are expected to last until Thursday morning, and PG&E said it will pay close attention to weather conditions. While recent rains have reduced fire risks, winds in subsequent days have dried out vegetation, raising new concerns.

In the Bay Area, PG&E has notified the following customers who may be affected: approximately 5,000 in Solano County, approximately 4,600 in Napa County, approximately 2,450 in Alameda County, 1,240 in Contra Costa County, Santa Clara County Nearly 1,600 people and about 1,900 in Sonoma County. The exact length of the outage depends on weather changes, and not all customers will be affected throughout the period.

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for much of the Bay Area, effective from 11 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday morning. PG&E said Tuesday it was working with state and local election officials to ensure a smooth election day and that temporary power generation equipment had been deployed at potentially affected polling sites.

PG&E has segmented the power grid to reduce the areas affected by outages and shorten the outage time for each customer. User accessibleCheck online the risk of power outage in your location at www.pge.com/pspsupdates。

3. Flight from San Jose to Atlanta diverted due to bird strike

On Tuesday, Delta Air Lines Flight 809 from San Jose to Atlanta was diverted due to a bird strike. Airport officials said the incident occurred just before 1 p.m., shortly after the plane took off. The plane returned to San Jose out of an abundance of caution.

There were 124 passengers and 6 crew members on board at the time. Passengers were transferred to another plane on Tuesday night.

The airport said it deeply apologized for the delay. No injuries were reported.
