The big Ten’s media rights deal is a game-changer, injecting a staggering $7 billion into the conference over the next seven years. With schools like Oregon joining the ranks and revenue streams overflowing, the stakes have never been higher.
But beyond the dollars and cents, each team carries its own unique identity, its own story. So, let’s ditch the stats and spreadsheets for a moment and capture the essence of each Big Ten football program through the power of music.
1. oregon Ducks:
The Ducks stormed into the Big Ten, leaving a trail of green and gold in their wake. They defied expectations, toppling giants and claiming an undefeated season.
Song: “Go Fuck Yourself” – blackbear and MGK
Lyric: “Go fk yourself.”

2. Penn State Nittany Lions:
Hope springs eternal in Happy Valley. With the conference realignment, Penn State fans dared to dream of a Big Ten title, free from the shadow of Ohio State and Michigan. While the Ducks crashed the party, the Nittany Lions still have a shot at glory.
Song: “Tenderness” – General Public

3. Indiana Hoosiers:
Indiana’s upset victory over Ohio State sent shockwaves through the conference. For one glorious moment, the Hoosiers became the darlings of the Big Ten, uniting fans across the conference in a shared desire to see the Buckeyes fall.
Song: “New Kid in Town” - Eagles

Let the music play, and let the games begin!
Stuck in Neutral: A College Football Season Soundtrack
The college football season is a rollercoaster of emotions, from the soaring highs of victory to the crushing lows of defeat. And just like any good story, it needs a soundtrack. This year, we’re taking a look at some of the biggest programs in the country and the songs that perfectly capture their current state.
1. Michigan: Born to Run
The Wolverines are finally back on top, riding high after two consecutive wins over their arch-rivals, Ohio State. They’re hungry for more, chasing that elusive national championship. Bruce Springsteen’s anthem “Born to Run” perfectly encapsulates their energy and ambition:
“Tramps like us, baby we were born to run.”

2. Georgia: The Boss
The bulldogs are the reigning champs, and they’re showing no signs of slowing down. They’re a well-oiled machine, dominating opponents with their suffocating defence and explosive offense. Just like Bruce springsteen himself, they’re the undisputed boss of college football.
“I’m the boss, I’m the boss, I’m the boss.”

3. Alabama: Thunder Road
The Crimson tide are always in the mix, but this year feels different. They’ve faced some unexpected challenges, and their aura of invincibility has faded slightly. Still, they’re a program built on grit and determination, and they’ll be fighting until the very end. Bruce Springsteen’s “Thunder Road” captures their spirit:
“Maybe we ain’t that young anymore. Show a little faith, there’s magic in the night. You ain’t a beauty, but hey, you’re alright.”

4. Illinois: Hungry Heart
When Bert was hired, the general consensus was “it could’ve been worse, and anyone is an betterment over Lovie.” In retrospect, Bert has been a really solid hire. in his four years at Illinois, Bert has gone 5-7, 8-5, 5-7, and 9-3. Given the modest fan support and NIL situation, Bert is making the most of what he has.
“Got a long way to go, but I’m gonna make it, I’m gonna make it.”

5. Ohio State: Bye Bye Love
This was my original pick until last saturday’s debacle. OSU had assembled one of the best college football rosters that money could buy. Yet, they weren’t even the king, being eclipsed by undefeated Oregon. OSU is not even the king of the Big Ten, let alone ruling everything by being the national champions. But, I’m calling it now. Ryan Day is 1-4 against michigan, which is going to trigger a whole lot of irrationality among the fan base and donors alike. So, here is my new choice for Ohio State:
“I can’t feel this way much longer Expecting to survive.”
[Embed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rDB7qmBEOE]
6. iowa: wish You Were here
As 2016, Iowa has won 8 to 10 games in each and every year except 2020 when they went 6-2. Even that record extrapolates to a nice tidy 9-3 record. Yup. That’s consistency. But, it also ain’t gonna get you into the playoffs. it’s literally doing the same thing pretty good thing year after year.
“We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year.”

From Playoff Contender to Middle-of-the-Pack: A Wild Ride for Washington Huskies
The Washington Huskies experienced a rollercoaster season, a stark contrast to their recent success. After a thrilling run as Pac-12 champions and College Football Playoff contenders, the Huskies faced a whirlwind of change.
Head coach Kalen DeBoer’s departure for Alabama, coupled with quarterback Michael Penix Jr.’s jump to the NFL, left a gaping hole in the program. Adding to the upheaval, the Huskies joined the Big Ten, facing grueling cross-country travel for conference matchups.
The result? A 7-5 record, a far cry from their championship aspirations.
While the Huskies’ struggles are understandable given the circumstances, the transition to the Big Ten has been undeniably bumpy.
“It’s been a wild ride,” said one anonymous Huskies fan. “We went from the penthouse to the middle of the pack in a blink. It’s tough to adjust to a new conference, especially with so many key players gone.”
The Huskies’ future remains uncertain. Can they rebuild and reclaim their former glory in the competitive Big ten landscape? only time will tell.
The Rest of the Pack:
This season saw a mix of triumphs and disappointments across the college football landscape. From Michigan’s surprising coaching change to Minnesota’s “ordinary average” performance, each team’s story is unique.
Stay tuned for more in-depth analysis of the 2023 college football season.
College Football’s Rollercoaster: From Triumph to Heartbreak
The 2023 college football season has been a wild ride, filled with unexpected twists, thrilling upsets, and agonizing defeats. As the regular season comes to a close, we take a look at some of the teams that have left their mark, for better or worse.
10.Rutgers: A Season of Close Calls
Rutgers fans dared to dream of a nine-win season, but the scarlet Knights’ schedule was littered with coin-flip games. While winning all those close contests is a tall order, Rutgers did manage to string together two consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 2012.
Despite the progress, depth issues and injuries hampered the team’s potential. As Joe walsh crooned, “I can’t complain, but sometiems I still do.”
11.USC: The Agony of Defeat
USC’s season has been a masterclass in snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Leading in the fourth quarter of nearly every game, the Trojans somehow managed to lose five times. The Notre Dame game was a particularly painful example, with back-to-back pick-sixes sealing their fate.
The football gods seem displeased with Lincoln Riley’s move from oklahoma, and USC fans are left wondering what could have been. As Nine Inch Nails put it, “I will let you down, I will make you hurt.”

12. Nebraska: Baby Steps Back to Relevance
Nebraska football has been mired in mediocrity for years, but Matt Rhule’s arrival brought a glimmer of hope. While his first season ended with a 5-7 record, the Huskers improved to 6-6 in 2023, securing a bowl berth for the first time in eight years.
It’s a small step forward, but as the Pretenders sang, “We are all of us in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.”

The heartbreaking loss to Iowa, with their notoriously anemic offense, added another layer of pain for Husker fans. As Morrissey once wrote, “Stop me if you think you’ve heard this one before.”
