Morena’s National Congress to Define New Leadership

Luisa María Alcalde Luján, the only member to express interest in the national party leadership

Mexico City, September 18 – ‌Luisa María​ Alcalde Luján, the current Home⁤ Secretary, is the only member of⁤ Morena who has expressed her intention to participate in the national party leadership, according ⁢to Mario Delgado, the current leader ​of Morena.

“So far, only she has expressed‍ interest in being ‍the party’s⁢ president,” Delgado told the press after ⁢leaving a meeting at Sheinbaum’s transition house.

The Extraordinary National Congress of​ Morena​ will be held next Sunday to ​define its leaders for the “second floor” of the Fourth‍ Transformation (4T), a new phase that Sheinbaum Pardo will ⁤lead in the​ Executive Committee.

Morena, founded by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador as ⁣a​ civil‌ society on October 2, 2011, reached its greatest strength in the ‍country with the June⁣ 2 elections, after which Morena will govern together with its ​allies 23 ​of the 32⁢ entities in the⁣ country.

The ​National Congress will be held at the⁤ World Trade ‌Center in Mexico City at 10:00 am, where three​ thousand national congressmen elected since 2022 are expected to attend. The National Congress ⁣is the highest authority of our party and it is the ⁣only one⁣ that ⁢has the power to⁣ elect the new leadership,” said Delgado.

That day, it will also be defined which position will be occupied by Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, the son of the President, who began in September to ⁢be promoted to occupy the General Secretariat of Morena, which⁣ Citlalli Hernández leaves to ‌occupy the new federal Women’s Secretariat.

As ⁣for whether Sheinbaum will participate in the ‍Morenoist Congress, the current leader assured: “He will be present there and will give a message to ‌the congressmen.”

President López Obrador Announces Luisa ‍María Alcalde’s Resignation

This⁢ Wednesday, President‍ López Obrador announced that he hopes that Luisa‌ María Alcalde will ​submit her resignation to the Ministry of the Interior next Friday to participate in the Extraordinary Congress of Morena, and highlighted that​ she is an “exceptional” officer and woman.

“Well, I think he’s ⁣going to hand‌ in his resignation, maybe on Friday. I don’t know what the Law or the regulations are like, ⁣but if it is active… ⁤it also⁣ helps us a lot, a lot, a lot. ‍She​ is an exceptional woman. Now there are very good female leads.⁣ But ⁢not ⁣only in politics, in all activities. “These are women’s times,” she ⁢said.

In the ‍same way, the president denied that he would participate in that national meeting of ⁢the Mexican left party. After López Obrador retires from public ⁣life, Morena ​will have to continue its path without its founder.
