Neilson Powless of EF Education–EasyPost surged to a solo victory at the GP Gippingen on Friday, solidifying his readiness for both the Tour de Suisse and the Tour de France. His decisive attack in the final 3.1 kilometers secured his second win this season.
Following altitude training in Sierra nevada, the 28-year-old American timed his race-winning move perfectly, breaking away from a strong group that included thibau Nys and Jan Christen.

This win follows Powless’s earlier triumph at Dwars door Vlaanderen, marking his eighth career victory. More importantly, it indicates his readiness for the challenges ahead, including the Tour de Suisse and the Tour de France.
At the Tour de Suisse, Powless aims to compete for stage wins alongside teammates Madis Mihkels and Vincenzo Albanese, testing his general classification (GC) capabilities.
“I was on the lookout for a good moment to go,” Powless said.“One popped up, I reacted immediately, and just went all in. It was just some real good old-school bike racing and super fun to execute. I’m getting pretty decent at picking these late moves after a hard day, and today, I had the fitness to back it up.”
“It gives me a lot of confidence going into the summer,” Powless said. “I think I nailed the altitude training this year. I’ve always felt tired coming down before, but this time I prioritized freshness. That seems to have paid off.”
