Indonesia will mark its 80th Independence Day on August 17th with celebrations emphasizing public service adn national unity, according to President Prabowo Subianto.The President has directed officials to avoid extravagance and instead focus on activities that benefit the Indonesian peopel.
A Day of Remembrance and Public Festivities
The commemoration will center around a series of events in Jakarta,beginning with a reenactment of the proclamation of independence at Merdeka Palace. This historically significant ceremony will be followed by a public feast open to all citizens within the palace’s central courtyard.
A similar large-scale public feast is planned for Monas Square, offering food and drinks to attendees throughout the day. The festivities will culminate in a remarkable fireworks display over Monas Square in the evening.
Night Parade Showcasing National Programs
A night parade will also take place, featuring representatives from various government bodies, including ministries, state-owned enterprises, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and the Attorney General’s Office. Each participating institution will present vehicles decorated with themes representing their respective programs and initiatives. The parade’s starting point will be near Merdeka Palace, as organized by State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, who chairs the celebration committee.

President Prabowo expressed his hope that the Independence Day celebrations will instill a sense of optimism and unity among the Indonesian public, especially as the nation navigates current challenges.
